Finding Details:
The member was found to have committed professional misconduct in that he:
- abused a patient emotionally; misappropriated property from a patient or workplace; contravened the standards of practice of the profession; and engaged in disgraceful, dishonourable and unprofessional conduct in February 2017 by accessing a patient’s private telephone to make personal long-distance calls for which charges were incurred while the patient was asleep and/or without the patient’s consent; and
- contravened the standards of practice of the profession; and engaged in disgraceful, dishonourable and unprofessional conduct in October 2016, by failing to conduct an adequate post-fall assessment of a patient and by inappropriately transferring the patient from the floor to the bed without using a mechanical lift, despite the patient vocalizing their pain and distress when he palpated the patient’s hips; and in March 2017, by failing to conduct an adequate post-fall assessment of a patient.

The Discipline Committee ordered that the member’s certificate of registration be suspended for 5 months from the date the member obtains an active certificate of registration; required the member to appear before the panel to be reprimanded; and imposed the following terms, conditions and limitations on the member’s certificate of registration:
- Must successfully complete specified remedial activities
- May not engage in independent nursing practice for a period of time
- Must inform employer(s) of results of discipline hearing
- Must inform College of all nursing employer(s) for a period of time
