Finding Details:
The member was found to have committed professional misconduct in that she:
- abused patients verbally, physically and emotionally, contravened the standards of practice of the profession and engaged in disgraceful, dishonourable and unprofessional conduct in March 2016 when she yelled at a patient and said words to the effect of “you are not allowed to wear these gloves” and “you are a liar, that’s what you are, you are a liar;” ripped off and removed the patient’s gloves in an aggressive manner; and said to the patient “you are a little whoo hoo, that’s what I think you are” or words to that effect; and in July 2016 when she wrapped a blanket and face mask around a second patient’s head and eyes; and when she placed a towel in a third patient’s mouth.
Outcome Details:
The Discipline Committee ordered that the member’s certificate of registration be suspended for 6 months; required the member to appear before the panel to be reprimanded; and imposed the following terms, conditions and limitations on the member’s certificate of registration:
- Must successfully complete specified remedial activities
- May not engage in independent nursing practice for a period of time
- Must inform employer(s) of results of discipline hearing
- Must inform College of all nursing employer(s) for a period of time
