Finding Details:
The member was found to have committed professional misconduct in that she:
- contravened the standards of practice of the profession and engaged in dishonourable and unprofessional conduct between December 2017 and August 2018 by failing to administer sliding scale Insulin at a specific time to a patient, as ordered, and to confirm and clarify the order with a physician on one or more occasions; and
- contravened the standards of practice of the profession and engaged in dishonourable and unprofessional conduct in or about September 2018 by: documenting that she administered sliding scale Insulin at specific times to a patient, contrary to the physician’s order; improperly delegating a nursing task of applying a topical steroidal cream to a non-registered staff member; requesting a report regarding a patient’s personal health information from a non-registered staff member in a public area of the facility; leaving a patient’s medications unsupervised in the facility’s dining room; instructing a non-healthcare professional, the family member of another patient, to administer medication to a patient and failing to adequately assess the patient; and repeatedly saying “my shift is over, I don’t have time for this,” or words to that effect, while assisting a patient following a fall.

The Discipline Committee ordered that the member’s certificate of registration be suspended for 4 months; required the member to appear before the panel to be reprimanded; and imposed the following terms, conditions, and limitations on the member’s certificate of registration:
- Must successfully complete specified remedial activities
- May not engage in independent nursing practice for a period of time
- Must inform employer(s) of results of discipline hearing
- Must inform College of all nursing employer(s) for a period of time
