Finding Details:
The member was found to have committed professional misconduct in March 2021 in that the member:
- contravened the standards of practice of the profession, failed to keep records as required and engaged in dishonourable and unprofessional conduct by failing to provide adequate care to a patient and failing to document care provided to the patient when he failed to: conduct and/or document his observations, assessments, and/or interventions regarding the patient’s abdomen; administer medications and/or document administering medications, as ordered; and take and/or document the patient’s vitals, as ordered; and
- contravened the standards of practice of the profession and engaged in dishonourable and unprofessional conduct by failing to wear Personal Protective Equipment, as required.

Outcome Details:
The Discipline Committee ordered that the member’s certificate of registration be suspended for 10 months; required the member to appear before the panel to be reprimanded; and imposed the following terms, conditions and limitations on the member’s certificate of registration:
- Must successfully complete remedial activities prior to return to practise
- Must successfully complete specified education prior to return to practise
- May not engage in independent nursing practice for a period of time
- Must inform employer(s) of results of discipline hearing
- Employer(s) to provide specified reports to CNO for a period of time
- Must inform CNO of all nursing employer(s) for a period of time
- Must have nursing mentor for a period of time

Finding Details:
The member was found to have committed professional misconduct in March of 2016 in that he:
- contravened the standards of practice of the profession, failed to keep records and engaged in unprofessional conduct by discarding an electrocardiogram test completed by emergency medical services;
- contravened the standards of practice of the profession and engaged in unprofessional conduct when he failed to ensure that a client received prompt medical treatment by failing to triage a client at the appropriate level, failing to appropriately consider electrocardiogram test(s) obtained by an EMS paramedic when assessing and triaging a client, failing to initiate or failing to instruct a colleague to initiate the appropriate medical directive for chest pain for a client when symptoms warranted doing so and failing to inform colleagues that a client had not been assessed by a physician and was in the waiting room at the conclusion of his shift; and
- engaged in unprofessional conduct by referring to an electrocardiogram test completed by the emergency medical services using unprofessional and unsuitable language.
