Details:
The Ontario Court of Justice found the member guilty of:
- assault with a weapon, to wit, a syringe, contrary to Section 267(a) of the Criminal Code of Canada; and
- theft of a value not exceeding five thousand dollars, contrary to section 334(b) of the Criminal Code of Canada.
The Ontario Court of Justice sentenced the member on April 6, 2022 to the following:
- an intermittent jail sentence for 90 days; a DNA order; a prohibition on possession of firearms for 10 years; and a prohibition on possession of prohibited firearms for life on the count of assault with a weapon;
- a concurrent intermittent jail sentence for 1 day on the count of theft of a value not exceeding five thousand dollars; and
- 3 years probation on both counts, including but not limited to the following conditions:
- must not seek, obtain or continue any employment, whether or not that employment is remunerated, or become a volunteer in a capacity, that involves being in position of trust or authority towards any vulnerable persons;
- must notify the court or the probation officer in advance of any change of name or address and must promptly notify the court or probation officer of any change in employment or occupation;
- must not contact or communicate with individuals specified by the court;
- must not be within 250 metres of any place where individuals specified by the court are known to live, work, go to school, frequent or any place they are known to be, except for the purposes of required court attendances; and
- must not possess any weapons as defined by the Criminal Code of Canada.

Finding Details:
The member was found to have committed professional misconduct in that the member:
- contravened the standards of practice of the profession, misappropriated property from a patient and engaged in disgraceful, dishonourable and unprofessional conduct in or around June 2019 by removing a syringe filled with medication from the patient’s home;
- contravened the standards of practice of the profession and engaged in disgraceful, dishonourable and unprofessional conduct in or around June 2019 by attempting to administer medication to the patient via a syringe without clinical purpose and/or attempting to conceal the administration from the patient’s family; and
- contravened a term, condition or limitation on the member’s certificate of registration and engaged in disgraceful, dishonourable and unprofessional conduct by failing to report charges arising in any jurisdiction relating to any offence to CNO, as follows: stealing a syringe, the property of a patient, of a value not exceeding five thousand dollars, contrary to Section 334(b) of the Criminal Code of Canada; attempting to administer pain medication to the patient with intent to endanger the life of the patient, contrary to Section 245(a) of the Criminal Code of Canada; and attempting to assault the patient using a weapon, a syringe, contrary to Section 267(a) of the Criminal Code of Canada.

Finding Details:
The member was found to have committed professional misconduct in December 2018 in that she:
- abused a client physically and emotionally; contravened the standards of practice of the profession; and engaged in disgraceful, dishonourable and unprofessional conduct by aggressively pulling a patient’s arm, scratching the patient’s forearm and slapping the patient across the face; and
- abused a client verbally and emotionally; contravened the standards of practice of the profession; and engaged in disgraceful, dishonourable and unprofessional conduct by pointing a finger in the patient’s face and speaking very firmly to them and saying to the patient, “well, that’s what happens”, or words to that effect.
