Finding Details:
The member was found to have committed professional misconduct in that that she:
- abused a patient verbally, physically and emotionally, misappropriated property from a patient, contravened the standards of practice of the profession and engaged in disgraceful, dishonourable and unprofessional conduct by cashing a cheque for $1,500 from a patient in December 2018 and removing funds from the patient’s wallet or purse and keeping the funds for her personal use in February 2019; and
- abused a patient verbally, physically and emotionally, contravened the standards of practice of the profession and engaged in disgraceful, dishonourable and unprofessional conduct by soliciting funds from a patient and implying that she would withhold medication from the patient if the patient did not provide her with funds in December 2018 and February 2019 and accepting a cheque for $1,500 from the patient in December 2018.
Outcome Details:
The Discipline Committee ordered that the member’s certificate of registration be suspended for six months; required the member to appear before the panel to be reprimanded; and imposed the following terms, conditions and limitations on the member’s certificate of registration:
- Must successfully complete specified remedial activities
- May not engage in independent nursing practice for a period of time
- Must inform College of all nursing employer(s) for a period of time
- Must inform employer(s) of results of discipline hearing
