Details:
The Ontario Court of Justice found the member guilty of:
- operating a motor vehicle while impaired by a drug, contrary to Section 253(1)(a) and Section 255(1) of the Criminal Code of Canada;
- theft of a value not exceeding five thousand dollars, contrary to Section 334(b) of the Criminal Code of Canada;
- breach of trust, contrary to Section 336 of the Criminal Code of Canada; and
- possession of a substance included in Schedule I of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act, contrary to s. 4(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.
The Ontario Court of Justice sentenced the member on April 20, 2017 to the following:
- 18 months in jail;
- a driving prohibition for 2 years;
- a victim surcharge;
- a DNA order; and
- two years probation.

Finding Details:
The member was found to have committed professional misconduct in June 2016 in that she:
- practised the profession while her ability to do so was impaired by a substance;
- contravened the standards of practise of the profession and engaged in disgraceful, dishonourable and unprofessional conduct by consuming a client’s medication and practising while impaired by a substance;
- contravened a term, condition or limitation on her certificate of registration and engaged in disgraceful, dishonourable and unprofessional conduct, by failing to report to the College details of charges relating to impaired driving caused by drugs, criminal negligence causing bodily harm, breach of trust, two counts of possession of a controlled substance, theft under $5,000 and possession of stolen property under $5,000;
- contravened the standards of practise of the profession, misappropriated property from a client and engaged in disgraceful, dishonourable and unprofessional conduct by misappropriating a client’s medications including morphine and Ativan; and
- contravened the standards of practise of the profession and engaged in disgraceful, dishonourable and unprofessional conduct by failing to administer a client’s pain medication.
