Finding Details:
The member was found to have committed professional misconduct while employed as a Registered Nurse at two facilities in that she:
- abused a client physically and emotionally, contravened the standards of practice of the profession and engaged in disgraceful, dishonourable and unprofessional conduct in or about April 2017 to July 2017 when she neglected to ensure patients were provided with adequate meals; neglected to ensure a patient’s medications were sufficiently stocked and refilled by the pharmacy; and in or about October 2017 to January 2018 when she neglected to ensure sanitary living conditions for a patient;
- contravened the standards of practice of the profession and engaged in disgraceful, dishonourable and unprofessional conduct in or about April to November 2017 when she: failed to ensure that unregulated staff were aware of a patient’s health care needs and that the patient required monitoring with respect to taking medications and eating meals; failed to ensure that the patient was taking daily medication and failing to report medication compliance concerns to her Power of Attorney for Personal Care; misrepresented to a patient and the patient’s family member that the patient would receive 3 meals and 2 snacks per day, would be adequately monitored and assisted with medication administration and eating and medications would be sufficiently stocked, including refills obtained by the pharmacy; and failed to ensure a patient attended follow-up appointments at the fracture clinic and failed to promptly reschedule the appointment; and
- contravened the standards of practice of the profession, failed to keep records as required and engaged in disgraceful, dishonourable and unprofessional conduct in or about April to June 2017 when she failed to keep adequate records for a patient, including but not limited to, a care plan or equivalent and contact information for the patient’s Power of Attorney for Personal Care.
