Finding Details:
The member was found to have committed professional misconduct in that the member:
• abused a patient verbally and emotionally; contravened the standards of practice of the profession; and engaged in disgraceful, dishonourable and unprofessional conduct in November 2019, by making inappropriate comments to a patient as follows: after the patient pinched and dug their nails into the member’s hand, saying words to the effect of “You fucking bitch” and “do you even know what I could do to you? I could drop you on the floor” and refused to provide care to the patient; and after the patient grabbed at the member, saying words to the effect of “I would love to just head butt you right in the head”;
• failed to keep records as required; contravened the standards or practice of the profession; and engaged in disgraceful, dishonourable and unprofessional conduct in or about August 2019, by failing to complete the necessary documentation after a patient fell; and
• contravened the standards of practice of the profession; and engaged in disgraceful, dishonourable and unprofessional conduct in or around August 2019, by using inappropriate language when receiving a shift report from a colleague, including words to the effect of “that fucking idiot” and “where is that fucking asshole”; by failing to complete an adequate assessment of a patient after the patient fell, respond to the patient’s injuries, and permitting and assisting the patient in moving from the floor to the bed; and by failing to conduct adequate assessments of a patient who had an allergic reaction to a condom catheter during the member’s shift, failing to intervene when the patient was experiencing signs and symptoms of an allergic reaction and failing to administer Benadryl, and failing to insert an in and out catheter on the patient despite evidence of urinary retention.
